You’re the Peanut Butter to my Jelly
Throughout childhood my best friend and I played a long running game called, “You’re the Peanut Butter to my Jelly”. We always began with good old PB&J and ended with crazy combinations like “You’re the eye to my eyedrops”.
Nerds? Maybe, but all these years later this special memory still bring a smile to my face. With her birthday coming up pretty soon, I thought it would be fun to recreate our favorite game in cookie form .
There are a number of cookie cutters that will work for this project. My favorites are this Wilton jersey, a top hat from Hobby Lobby {available around St. Patrick’s Day}, and a simple onesie.
Because I already had an idea in mind I trimmed the shapes to my liking with a small heart cutter and a very sharp knife.
If you would like to create a double cookie it works best to piece the cookies together before trimming.
To make these cookies you will need:
- “Crust” colored piping icing
- Ivory 20-second icing
- “Grape” 20-second icing
- “Peanut Butter” 20-second icing {I used leftover crust icing with a bit more warm brown and egg yellow}
- Black piping icing {optional}
- Pink 20-second icing {optional}
Begin by outlining the crust area with a #4 tip.
Next, fill the cookie with ivory 20-second icing leaving an open space like the one below . Let the cookie dry for an hour or two.
Fill the empty spaces with either “grape” or “peanut butter” 20-second icing and let dry overnight.
If you’d like, use black icing {#1.5 tip} to add eyes and a smile and pink for sweet little cheeks.
Here are both versions. Notice the double cookie is a little on the large size. If you’d like a smaller version, a {small} onesie cutter works well after trimming.
Like I said, we could play for hours. Eventually things would get so silly we’d do more laughing than talking.
You’re the cheese to my pizza, the milk to my cookies, the salt to my pepper, the ketchup to my french fries, the butter to my popcorn…the list goes on an on.
Just peanut butter and jelly, some things…like me and my bestie, were meant to be.

I have trouble with my icing bleeding colours even though I wait a few hours between coatings. Is there a way to fix that? I’m in the UK so I guess it’s humidity. Any tips?

I’m so gald you posted all these super cute cookies. I’ve missed so many things while I was sick, so now that I’m back in the sadle, seeing these cookies make me feel even better! BTW – LOVE that game and she will love her thoughtful birthday cookies!
Thanks so much for including the TIP SIZES!!! Love the PB&J Friendship cookies and your approach. You might think you’ve demonstrated some of your techniques a thousand times by now BUT sometimes that’s how long it takes us to “get IT”. I love the way you add dimension and you just saved me from making big mistakes on some upcoming cookies I need to do. I would have outlined and flooded the whole cookie and put the center designs on top of the dry flood. They wouldn’t have looked nearly as good as yours! I love your puffy look instead of flat on flat!
You are so absolutely adorable Callye! These are SO beyond creative! I bet your friend was ecstatic when she saw these. Oh to live in your brain for just a day! You’re incredible! Thanks for the fun tutorials and sharing your expertise and creativity! Cristin

When you have to let them dry overnight, how do you store them? Or do you just leave them on the counter?
These are too cute!
I do not know HOW I missed seeing these, they are adorable and I really wish I had some right now 🙂 since I can’t make them as fast as I’d like I guess I’ll have to settle for a sandwich, but it will be a PB&J!

These are so cute! I have a onesie cutter so I will definitely be trying these. Perhaps around my anniversary because we used a version of the “you’re the jelly to my peanut butter” verse as part of our wedding vows 🙂

Hi! Did you use warm brown and egg yellow for the crust and the peanut butter? I wasn’t sure what you meant by “more warm brown and egg yellow” for the peanut butter. Thanks! I am in love with everything you do!
Do you make and ship? These are exactly what I need for my anniversary!
such great ideas right here. :]
