Hello Kitty Bow Cookies
I have always been a Hello Kitty fan but these cookies bring back especially fond memories.
A few years ago I made Hello Kitty face cookies to send to one of my best friends back in Virginia. Her baby girl was on the way and since I couldn’t make the shower it was the next best thing.
She knew that cookies were coming, of course, but she wasn’t quite sure I would send enough for everyone at her baby shower. She could have asked *ahem* but since she knew I was super stressed, she didn’t. Instead, she came up with a plan of her own. She wasn’t quite confident enough to tackle Kitty’s face, she decided her bow might just be simple enough for her to make…and she did.
Turns out, I sent more then enough cookies {because I have magic telepathy with ALL my friends} but her great idea stuck with me. All these years later, I finally made my version of Hello Kitty bows using what might possibly be one of the most common cutters around. It’s amazing what you can do with a dog bone.
To make these cookies you will need:
- Twenty-second icing in the color of your choice
- Coordinating piping icing
Begin by using the 20-second icing to create a round center. It’s important to make it thick enough that it doesn’t run over the edge, but thin enough to flow. For tips on consistency, click HERE.
Let the centers dry for a bit, then add the loops.
Use a toothpick to move the icing around the curves of the center.
Let the cookie dry completely, overnight is best.
After the base has dried, use a #1.5 or #2 tip to make the little “C” shaped detail on Kitty’s bow.
If you’re going for a more dramatic look, try outlining the base entirely in black. In this case you would flood the entire base at once rather than sections.
Or, you can skip the piping icing all together, and use 20-second icing for the entire design, a three-step process.
See how well they coordinate?
PS-I used the same technique to make the bows on Kitty’s head.
Bone cutters work great for minis too.
PPS-I bet they would look amazing attached to Kitty’s face.
You can also use this idea/technique to add Hello Kitty bows to letter and number cookies. I especially like this design by Aileen, of A Master Creation.
Moral of the story? Smart caring friends make you smarter…and more caring. So choose wisely!
