How to Make Giraffe Print Cookies
Over the past couple of years I’ve made more animal print cookies than I can count. I don’t know if it’s a Texas thing, but people around here are just wild about it {pun intended}. I’ve gone over how I make zebra and leopard print cookies but somehow I completely overlooked giraffe until today.
Believe it or not, giraffe print is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I used a yellow/gold-ish icing as a base and a warm brown for the spots, but any color combo will work. I think pink and blue giraffe print is especially pretty.
Begin making these cookies by outlining and flooding the base. When it’s completely dry use 20-second icing to add spots. Start in the center and work out to the edge. The key to giraffe print is random blocky spots with the same amount of space between each one.
These are the cookies I made when I took the photographs {eons ago}…
but I recently used this technique to make actual giraffe cookies. Same thing on smaller scale.
Anyone wondering about my cool giraffe cutter? Good, because I am dying to tell you about it. It was actually a gift from my cookie friends, Donna and Diane. Believe it or not, this cutter {which is actually a reindeer} came all the way from AUSTRALIA! This well-traveled little gem is my new fave.
Anywho, I know that tropical leaves are a little off-topic but I thought they looked good with the other cookies so…

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!
So much fun! They look very cute 🙂
I’m coveting that cutter! He’s fabulous, as is this tutorial!
Awww……those giraffes are super cute. And I have that reindeer cutter. Yippee!
You photos are so vibrant and beautiful. And I miss you terribly. With love…… ???
These are adorable! Giraffe print doesn’t seem to be a thing up here, yet…but giraffe cookies, they are definitely a thing 🙂
Fabulous cutter! You’re the queen of animal print cookies 🙂
Is there a book or website that shows different ways to use one cookie cutter. For instance you used the reindeer cutter and made a giraffe, or turning the snowman upside down to get a totally different look.
I will admit I am a sucker for animal print, Callye….and I love some giraffe! So envious of your new cutter………but I’m loving those palm leaves and must incorporate them in an order soon!
vicki
Love, love, love these! Especially that giraffe’s face!
Great tutorial! I’m actually geeking out on the tropical leaves. Love them!! 🙂
These are so adorable…I will have to share! Love the Giraffe!
Your giraffe is just as cute as can be, Callye! Your animal prints are amazing!
Ok, those giraffes are so stinkin’ cute!
I love the giraffe, especially his little tuft of hair (I think it’s hair!) You never cease to amaze me, so talented. Do you paint? I think you should, you’re such an artist. All us cookie lovers would buy your artwork !!!!
Thanx for ALL the great help! You’re my go to girl! and I had SO much fun making animal prints! Alot easier then the animals….
Here’s my giraffes…http://my50acres.blogspot.com/2012/05/j-is-for.html
(I used a Frankinstein cutter for the Zebras and an acorn cutter for the Giraffes.)
My frosting on them got alittle runny and I knew it.. learning lots ea. time for sure. I really like the way you did the leaves..
I think the tropical leaves fit in perfectly with this post and with these cookies. Your giraffes are adorable, all the cookies are wonderful.
Wow, this has to be a first: I had a cutter before you did! (but then I’m from Australia, too) You still win though, because you thought creatively, whereas I just popped my Reindeer cutter aside for next Christmas… Your giraffes are very cute, but what I actually really love in this post is those gorgeous leaves – leaving the little holes in them is genius!
Ooohhhh….maybe I’ll make these for a friend’s baby shower next week…..she is doing a jungle theme in the nursery!!!
WOW! love these. I am prparing for my grandson’s second birthday in Novemebr and the theme is jungle. I had elephant, lion and monkey face cookie cutters(wilton) but did not have the giraffe. Yours is adorable and the print cookies awesome. Thanks for sharing!! I searched the net and found a couple of places that carry the cutte, but one discontinued it and the other is out of stock. I hope that they restock before November. In any case I think I will use your technique of using cutters I have and combining and transofrming them. The face looks like the candycorn cookie cutter and I can use small leaves for ears and we will see what for the anthenas. Thanks for inspiring so many of us.
Ugh! I have cutter envy! My brain doesn’t see the cute things that yours does from all of these different cutters so I have to run out and buy them so I can make what you did. Now what do I do?! 🙂
Oh Callye this might just be the cutest things I’ve ever seen EVER. LOVE LOVE your giraffe! Yes, I’m on a bit of a jungle animal kick because of Mellissa’s baby shower. Your giraffe is just to die for! Absolutely stinkin adorable! I saved him in my folder of my total desire to be like Callye folder 😉 You always inspire me. I love it! Cristin
ADORABLE! What else can I say? Love everything you do! (Oh, and I’ve been wanting to figure out how to do zebra…I’m gonna check that one out next!)
oh my, these are adorable. one of my best friends loves giraffes. i guess i have to recreate these for her. i am sure she’ll love them.
These are so adorable. I’ve always been a big fan of Giraffes. These look great and using the reindeer cutter is brilliant! And for what it’s worth, I think the tropical leaf fits in just fine – very jungle-worthy.
I knew you would create something magical with this cutter. He was definitely an adorable reindeer, but he makes an even better giraffe. This is going to be a popular cutter, perhaps you can make arrangements with the store in Australia to reconsider their policy against international shipping. Your followers alone would give them so much business.
He melts my heart! You continue to astonish me with your vision . . . This time seeing beyond the reindeer!
Incredible cookies!! Your talent never ceases to amaze me!! I can’t wait to see what cookie is up next!
oh my, those are adorable! and i’ve gotta say, even your leaf cookies are perfect 😀 They look exactly like they come from the jungle 🙂
Super cute!
Your piping is always perfect! 🙂
Several people have contacted me wanting to know where I purchased this cookie cutter. It came from a store in Australia and they do not ship internationally. Unfortunately, I checked the website and it says it is no longer available. The neck is long, narrow and breaks easily so perhaps they had complaints. From the photos I think SSB cut part of the neck off for the giraffes.

There is a similar one in New Zealand but they also do not ship internationally.

Good luck to those of you who have connections “down under”, maybe they can ship it to you. Hope this information helps you in your search.
Apparently both stores I listed in my earlier post no longer have this cutter.
Yep….I want to change my frosting – I love these little giraffes!
I’m diggin’ the leaves! Your use of white cookie space makes such an strong impact!
Love the giraffe cookies! They are so cute. Appreciate all that you share with us! Thanks!!!
I actually had a dream last night about Giraffe Cookies and how I’d decorate them using your methods… how freaky is that!! These are gorgeous… Sx
I think that these are the cutest things I have seen all day! And it’s 11:52 PM. I think it just made my day. I love them!!
So, so cute!! I love that cutter!!
Giraffes are my favorite animal. Thanks for showing me how to make the spots. Now I need the reindeer cookie cutter.
These are adorable!!! Thanks for sharing how to do the animal prints.
Completely adorable! You continue to amaze me. These would be adorable for a shower or a first birthday party.
How cute are these?!?
These cookies are so cute!
You are so talented!!! a couple months ago I was trying to make something like this for my baby’s first birthday (safari themed) and searched all over the web and I never saw a giraffe cookie cutter, so I guess the pictures posted in google, were probably from people talented like you (that have more vision than me) and improvised with a different cookie cutter. I’m glad I found this, maybe for a future second child birthday. Thanks for sharing how to do this, this tutorial helps people like me 🙂 that knows nothing about decorating cookies with icing hehehehehe.
I love them. Giraffes are my favorite. These are just so cute, I could eat them up. Thanks for making it so easy to try. I can’t wait to do this. Now all I have to do is get my sister and brother-in-law to find me that cutter. They live in Australia.
Got my cutter today and so excited. I purchased mine at http://www.homesnthings.com.au/shop/davis-waddell-rudolf-cookie-cutter?virtuemart_category_id=0 but I’m not sure if they sell overseas.
There is someone on Etsy selling this cutter you can also find them on Facebook.
