Patriotic Cookies With Sprinkles
This isn’t at all a new idea. I’ve been meaning to add sprinkles to my cookie dough since Naomi made funfetti sandwich cookies with vanilla frosting, but I never got around to it. Then, not to long ago Maria and Josh made their version in red, white, and blue. I knew then that the time had come.
Its funny how much excitement sprinkles add. I started with my basic cookie dough then added half of a cup of red, white, and blue jimmies.
After a short mix, I had a bowlful of pretty, patriotic dough.
In fact, it was so pretty, I could not stop taking pictures of it!
I rolled and cut as usual…
And they baked up perfectly. I did give them about a minute more in the oven, though.
My kiddos see cookies every day and don’t even blink, but they were begging for these. See what I mean about sprinkles?
So simple, but so much fun!
I cannot wait to try this again. I’m seeing Easter cookies with a pretty spring colored jimmies.
Try it today. You’ll thank me. I hope everyone is having a great weekend…my thoughts and prayers go out to those of you in Maryland and Virginia affected by last night’s storm. Next on my to do list, Funfetti Cake Batter Cookies by Cookin’ Cowgirl.
Happy baking!
Fabulous! Did the jimmies make it more difficult to cut them out? This is such a creative way to add some pizzazz to sugar cookies!! 🙂
Not at all, even with plastic cutters!
Awesome 🙂
How cute! I’m so doing this! What a cute idea!!!!! You Rock as always!!!!!
OH yeah yeah yeah! I love this idea. And I’ve got tons of sprinkles I could add to cookies. I’m envisioning doing this for every season…..color coordinating, of course.
Ummmmmm you might be creating some monsters…….sprinkle cookie monsters. 😉 ??
Brilliant, beautiful, and FUN!!! 🙂
Count me in as a sprinkle cookie monster! Love the idea cuz I have more sprinkles than I know what to do with. Was going to make some patriotic shortbread squares with little dragees, this way I don’t have to make shortbread dough!
This is just perfect, makes me want to hoard more sprinkles, and I already hoard a bunch!
These are great and I love the sprinkles!
These are awesome!
Thanks for sending some prayers all the way to Virginia! You’re coming out here soon right? I ended up baking a wedding cake last night. I shut my oven off 5 minutes before my power went out. Then I had to level, ice and decorate the thing by candlelight with no fridge to stick it in! What a nightmare! These cookies are super, duper cute and if my power would stay on long enough, (we lost it with last Monday’s storm and just got it back Wednesday)….I will definitely be baking cookies like this. It’s always so amazing how something so simple can immediately kick cookies up a notch! Thanks for all your awesome ideas as usual!
Wow, these look AMAZING! I bet they taste amazing too!
I love the idea of adding the jimmies to the dough! The cookie decorating is fantastic!
I love the sprinkles! What a great idea! So creative!
LOVE it!
These look awesome, as though the gorgeous royal icing piping is not enough you go and decorate the dough. I am also giggling at you taking pictures of the pretty dough because I totally understand.
I love sprinkles! Why haven’t I thought of adding them to my cookie dough? I don’t know but this is on my cookie bucket list now!
This may not be a new idea but boy do you make them look pretty. Your cookies have a look that I always find so appealing. I would love to make a platter like that for the 4th but since it’s on a Wednesday & I have to work the next day it ain’t gonna happen. Maybe next year.
Awesome idea! The whole time I was reading this I was like, whoa! Whoa! Wait…whoa! LOL – thanks for the cool idea, I’m gonna try it!!
OMG, i’m in love with these cookies. I am obsessed with sprinkles!!!!
*slaps forehead* Now why did I never think of that? Fabulous!
Your creativity never fails to astound me. You’ve actually inspired me to try decorating cookies myself (which I’ll hopefully be doing today!). They won’t turn out as good as any of yours I’m sure but I hope I’ll have just as much fun as you always appear to be. In case it wasn’t obvious – I love you 😀
Thank you for your mention of the storms through MD, VA and DC. We live in VA but are vacationing in another state. Found out we lost power and trees. Our son’s car was totaled when huge limbs of a tree came crashing down on it. They have no power and today is their child’s 1st Birthday Party. She can’t even make his first birthday cake or get ice cream because of the power 🙁
I LOVE all the cookie designs you make – they are beautiful. A true work of art.
I hope things are getting back to normal. I lived in VA during Hrrican Floyd and it made life very uncomfy for a couple of weeks 🙁
I think it would be awesome with red and green sprinkles for Christmas as well!
I love this set and your use of cutters. You’re always thinking outside the box. I can see you used 2 different ice cream cone cutters, heart, and carrot cutters, but what cutter{s} did you use to make the rocket?
It’s a cupcake with a star added on 🙂
This is one of those “why did I never think of that” moments!!! Brilliant, really!!! And everyone loves sprinkles!
Now………can I just comment on the fireworks??? Can I tell you how much I love that “cherry bomb” cookie? You always think of something different………every single holiday – there must be so much going on in that head of yours!
these are adorable…wish I had made new dough for those cookies in the oven, but I had to clean out the freezer…maybe for Halloween….great idea!
Callye, you’re a rock star in my book!
Another brilliant idea and so perfect for the 4th of July. I love these festive cookies.
What a fabulous idea!
Love this cookies! I may try to attempt to make some for the 4th of July…Thanks for the inspiration : )
I am completely in love with these. Not only are they perfect for the 4th BUT sprinkles just make everything 100x better.
What a fun idea, funfetti cookies! You’re so clever.
Oh what a great idea. Your cookies look delicious enough to eat even without the beautiful royal icing work.
These are adorable and your site is adorable too! I also think i want to try your candy button receipe! If you ever have time I would love for you to link up to handmade Tuesday’s at ladybug blessings!
Aaargh!!! I already made all of my 4th of July cookies!!! Now I have to wait until NEXT year!!! So not fair.
The cookies look great!! Do you have a tutorial for making cookies like this? Meaning I see a layer of white and then you did your design on top, did that make sense?? I was just curious to know how to do layers like you did? (I am sure you have a cookie you have done in the past, I just can’t find one!) thanks so much!!
I don’t have one for this yet. I will try to come up with one!
Thanks for the shout out! These cookies are just adorable!! Love them! 🙂
Very cute! Did it change the texture of the cookie?
They just have the bite of a few
Extra jimmies bit not dramatically…
Fantastic looking, Callye! I love how festive and colorful these are. And the funfetti touch-makes them extra irrestible.
I live in Maryland and just wanted to say thanks for the thoughts and prayers! Very sweet of you 🙂 Love your blog and your posts. I check it daily and keep re-reading old posts because I can’t get enough!!
Are they getting things fixed up yet?
Super cute. You always do such excellent work!
Those are gorgeoussss! The colors are so vibrant, and the textures pop!
Someone saw my 4th of July cookies on my blog last night and shared yours. Love the jimmie idea. I pipe frosting on mine. LOVE yours !!!!
I would love to follow your blog but can not find your “followers” button.

I am soooo going to do this!!! Love the look!

I have a super silly question. But how do you get your parchment paper to lay so flat??
(btw – I have such a “cookie-crush” on you. You inspired me to start decorating cookies and now I’m obsessed!)
Your cookies are beautiful! Could you please tell me what cookie cutter shapes were used? It looks like an ice cream cone and carrot, but I can’t tell what the other shapes are. Thanks
Love, love, love these…
I had started to hammer out a wordy comment about what you wrote but
decided not to. It would have sounded stilted and boorish.
All that to say this, “thanks”. It was fun to read.
My brother suggested I might like this web site.
He was entirely right. This post actually made my day.
You cann’t imagine just how much time I had spent for this information! Thanks!
I totally forgot about these! Maybe I’ll whip up a quick batch for the 4th using these. That way, nobody will notice I’m still a newbie decorator! Thanks for directing us back to these old, valuable posts Callye.
Duh! Face palm! Why haven’t I ever thought of this…I will have to try this asap!! 🙂 P.S. The cookies are beautiful as always!!!!
Which cutters did you use? I want to do something different this year.
