Confetti Graduation Cookies
This year, my niece Charli graduated from high school and I really wanted to surprise her with cookies. Maybe it was the end of school parties, baseball games, graduation ceremonies, or having an extra kiddo at home, but lately I haven’t had a moment to spare. So, what do you do when you’re short on time and need to make cookies? You keep it simple.
Ahem, I see you rolling your eyes, but seriously, when you break it down this is a really simple platter. Aside from the four eagle cookies the rest are pretty basic. The confetti swirl “filler” cookies are one of my favorites. There there are no hand cutting or special cutters needed. They’re made with a simple snowman cutter.
To make these cookies you will need:
- white piping and flood icing
- green 20-second icing
- black/gray 20-second icing {optional}
Begin by outlining and flooding the cookies with white icing. Let them dry overnight.
To make the swirl you have to work quickly. Use green 20-second icing to make a loopy squiggle on the white base. Use the lines of the snowman as your guide, but don’t worry about perfection. Random is the name of this game.
When you’ve made the swirl immediately come back and widen parts of the lines like I did below. I like to do either the top or bottom of each loop to give it that “ribbony” look. Remember to WORK FAST!
Be sure to work down the entire length of the swirl.
These cookies look beautiful as is, or you could add a little sparkle with sanding sugar or disco dust. Also, if you have bleeding problems, be sure to use and oscillating fan to dry your cookies. It works!
To finish up, I added a few little dots to my confetti swirls to add interest {and to hide a few air bubbles I missed}. See how well the snowmen cutters worked?
It seems like only yesterday Charli was a sweet wide eyed baby, and now she stands a head taller than me! I’m so proud of her. In four years I’m sure I’ll be making her another round of graduation cookies in purple in black. I can’t wait!

Congratulations Charli and the Class of 2012!
I love your style!
You make everything SO much easier! I love the way your mind works!
Snowmen in June! I like it!
Looking at your step by step make me thing it’s so easy to make, I guess it is not, but we can improve with practice.
I love the confetti using a snowman cutter! Very cute filler cookies. I also love the cookies that spell out the name. I bought that cutter awhile ago and I haven’t used it yet because it’s kind of on the small side to be a message cookie, but it worked perfect for individual letters spelling the name.
where can u purchase that cutter?
I love the confetti idea because it can be used for ANY occasion. I think you’re rubbing off on me. If you cut off the “head” on the snowman in middle of top, & turn the rest upside down, you’d have a good cookie shape for a tweety bird head.
Fabulous confetti! Fabulous storm cookie, too!
I have a snowman cutter~yippee! Love these, Callye! Thanks for showing us how it’s done! You’re my hero! Can’t wait to meet you at CookieCon! I don’t recall if I’ve already said that, so forgive me if I’m repeating myself:)
I second what Sue said. I can’t wait for CookieCon!
oh I just LOVE those swirls they are so pretty!
I was just about to call someone, I don’t know who to find out where you were!! I was starting to get worried!!! And these cookies are anything but simple looking! I bet she loved them!
Super cute ideas, as usual! Thanks so much! I love your site!
These are SOOO cool Callye! Love that you shared a tutorial and that you showed it using different snowmen too! Congrats to Charli!
Love these! I’m going to have to try the eagles – our HS mascot too. Your site is encouraging me to try new ways to decorate my cookies! Thanks!
I love the confetti swirls…so many possibilities in colors 🙂
Wish it was as easy as you make it look! Where to get the shape of the cookie cutter that you have 2012 on? I’ve seen you use it in past posts and cannot find. Thanks – you’re the best!
I totally did roll my eyes! :o) I like the confetti ones and the little squares.
These are beautiful as usual!! I sure need to get some snowmen cutters as I just realized I don’t have any. Oh and you had me laughing… because I DID roll my eyes!!! I had to read that sentence twice to make sure I wasn’t being paranoid 😉
As a HIUGE fan of all things Christmasy I LOVE that you have so many reasons to keep these cutters out year round 😉
Thanks for the great idea Callye!!
So, so pretty! I’m sure your niece will love/loved them!
You are such a sweet aunt to make these cookies for Charli! I always think homemade gifts (and BAKED gifts, at that!) are the best. 🙂
You are so clever to make a streamer out of a snowman! I love seeing your ideas almost as much as i love your cookies themeselves 🙂 Its so cool! And innovative – who said baking was boring 🙂
That from a snowman?! Love your ideas! I suppose the possibilities are just endless …
I love how your icing always looks puffy, and the cutter shape for the name Charli is awesome. I’m sure the graduates will be happy!
Bravo Calleye!!! Your creations are simply amazing!!
Wow! I love how you have the vision to see those cookies from the snowman cutter. Can I ask what cutter you used for the Eagle? That is our school mascot and I would love to “attempt” a cookie like that. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
Where can i find the cutter used for the name?
Wow!! I love the way to take a cookie cutter meant for something and you make it into something else, in a FABULOUS something else. You are an inspiration for me.
I iced some cupcake shaped cookies a few nights ago and had two issues, one of which you mentioned in this post.
– The issue I wanted to ask about: my flood icing dried all ripple-y. It was the bottom of the cupcakes, so a good sized space. I piped, then flooded. THoughts?
And, for those of you who are looking for specific cutters, try some of the online companies that Sugarbelle mentions throughout her post (i.e. Karen’s or The Cookie Cutter Co) OR just look up “cookie cutters” on Amazon. I found the scroll cutter via Amazon, altho it’s sold at another company.
When I look at the swirl cookies, I thought it would be SO HARD! You make it simple without hand cutting! You are amazing and I love the way you show us how to break things down! 🙂 Thanks for teaching us!
It is a beautiful graduation platter Callye. Your eagles are excellent and I really like your confetti swirl cookies. What a novel idea.
I love these, thay made me happy to just look at them, BRAVO! Also congratulations to the 2012 graduates.
Seriously, rolling my eyes at “simple” – Love it! I’m impressed you are so talented that THIS is simple. 🙂

I’m so behind on commenting on my favorite blogs that I really can’t remember if I left a comment on this post. Lol! Only you can make a snowman into a confetti cookie. Your brain is so amazing. I can stare at a snowman cutter all day and it is just a snowman. I’ve been able to alter a cutter here and there to make a shape I need but I really had to push my brain to think of it. You have some Jedi mind tricks going on girl.
wow yummy its very testy i love it guyz but i cant eat because i have no idea to bake this cookies.
