Pinterest Cookie-d {Subway Art Cookies}
I got a little sidetracked, but now I’m back with another installation of the series I’m working on with my friend Ashleigh from A Bee in Our Bonnet.
Sorry y’all no how-to for this one, just some tips and lots of pictures. Although I try to give the illusion of knowing what I am doing, lots of times when I cookie something, I have to wing it. This is one of those times.
This cookie is what I call a “Monet”. That just means, like the paintings, these cookies look good from far away, take a closer glance, they are a mess.
By the way, I didn’t make that up. It’s one of the biggest things I took away from that 90’s era movie, Clueless. Um, yeah, I might’ve watched that one more than a few times…
Anyway, like I said, no tutorial, just some tips and advice…
If you decide to take a stab at these, remember a few key tips:
- #1 and #1.5 tips are your friends
- Stencils can help {If found this one in Michael’s by chance. They are called Journaling Templates. If you see some pick them up. they are VERY handy for cookie projects}
- Plan out what you are going to write. Winging it does NOT work well in this case
- Use icing that has a consistency similar to hair gel for these. Not too stiff but not so runny that it will flow together
- In this case, a Kopy Kake is your friend
- Relax
- Practice
- PRAY
This one was my favorite. Believe it or not, this was the first one I made. I have beginners luck I guess. I didn’t like the subsequent ones as much. Seems like the more I thought about it, the more I goofed.
What are your tips for a happy marriage? These are biggies for us.
These were a lot of work, and I am by NO MEANS an expert, but I made it through this project okay. I think they would also be gorgeous in the popular “off-colors”, or as wedding favors, simplified by using one single phrase on a solid square rather than the whole spiel. I’m even planning a UT version for Bern-Dogg’s birthday, but SHHHH, don’t tell him!
Halloween and autumn cookies have kind of distracted us, but Ashleigh and I are still cookie-ing Pinterest. Hop on over to A Bee in Our Bonnet to see her latest creation, and stay tuned for more. If you are just now joining in, you might want to check out these other Pinterest inspired Cookies…

Love these! And I used to watch Clueless every Friday night in Jr. High. True story.
Three comments since March 9th. It’s now October 3rd. This blog is not worikng. Perhaps ALPA should send another e-mail to advertise this blog.
A mess?! Hardly. These are so so cool!! As always, your talent blows me away.
I love how you managed to do the different fonts! I’ve got to say, I’ve become addicted to this series of cookies. I adore them. Lol.
Omgosh I love this!!
Fabulous job oh these beauties, they are amazing!
Ok, if I didn’t worship you before, I think I do now!! These are incredible!!! Pure art!
Wow, these are gorgeous! You did an amazing job!!! I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series!
Well done with the writing! These are such fun.
these are some of the cutest and beautiful cookies I have seen. You do such an amazing job.
I can only imagine how tricky these were to do. You did an amazing job Callye. I’m beginning to think that you are not afraid to tackle anything when it comes to decorating a cookie. Amazing!
These are just SUPER awesome!!! I’m totally in love with these!
Thank you for share all your models, you are a big inspiration.
Please, tell me, what to do to avoid the sauer test in black icing? I tried Wilton and Americolor, but the black icing still test bad. Black is a wanderful color in decoration, nothing can replace it, but the test ruin my cookies. Some advice?
Thank you.
Me too!! I hate using black for that reason. 🙁 HELP. Please?! 🙂
Love all your creations, you’re so talented! Please tell me though, do you have any tips for decorating with black icing? I use Americolor black, but it really doesn’t taste too good, very bitter. And let me tell you, your mouth and lips will be a hot mess after you eat a cookie (and it wasn’t a pretty sight on my 83 yr old aunt!) Do you have the same problem and is there any way around this?
In my next lifetime, I want to be just like you!….Oh my word, these are incredible……
Thanks for sharing…..do you think you may do a tututorial on them?
Mary
These are fantastic, Such a cool idea!!!

What fun cookies – love the white on black!
You.Are.Awesome !!!!!
They are so cute, Callye! I think I would be scared to even *attempt* something like that! Bravo!
I love your Pinterest inspired cookies. These are super cute!
I posted a comment yesterday and it’s not showing up!! Callye, you used stencils & kopykake for this? How were the stencils?
And, of course, when are you moving to NY?
This cookies are fabulous! Seriously I wish I had some of your creativity. Thanks for the tip on the journaling stencils. Those will be a big help. I’m doing cookies for my sisters wedding next month and initials weren’t going to be my favorite thing to do because I secretly hate my handwriting. Thought of using my Cricut Cake….but I think stencils may work better and faster.
Wow! I love this!
Love these! The look great!
xo
Those are DARLING!
Saw these on your FB page and didn’t realize that they were cookies – I should have know better, totally C-O-O-L 🙂
These are SO cool- I’d hate to eat them! 😉
These are so cool – and I bet very popular! Love subway art, but love edible subway art even better!
“a Monet”…LOL! So, you watched “Clueless” as a teenager, too? I used to watch that movie over and over again in HS. I finally got around to reading Jane Austin’s “Emma” a couple of years ago and realized that “Clueless” is actually based on classic literature. That made me feel so much better for liking it as much as I did. BTW, Great cookies…as always!
WOW, those are fabulously creative!!!
Wow! I make all Monet cookies…..do not approach too closely! These are so awesome, I love to decorate cookies, but I do not like the writing business…at all. Kudos to you, once again they are oooh, ahhh!
Thank for the Give a Way. I follow your blog and love your cookie decorating. I wish I had the time to do more and improve my skills. That is first on my retirement list.
I am a FB fan! You are awesome, and so is your giveaway! [email protected]

These are so wonderful. I love the subway art and your lettering is fabulous.
“Honey! You baked!”
i just say wow, but how on earth do you make the black black?
I was wondering what black you use as well, but my interest was because of taste. I hate to use black because it takes so much to get it dark enough, then has a funky flavor. Any tips, better flavor/no flavor brands? Thanks so much! LOVE your cookies. 🙂
p.s. Corinne, thanks for “letting” me tag onto your post! 🙂
These are beautiful. They look so perfect!

Simply amazing. That’s all I can say.
Absolutely lovely!!! I’m fascinated by your works. Congratulations from Spain!
Simply amazing!!!
You can use a drinks can for this. You have to cut it open very cauefrlly and flatten it out but it’s exactly the same material aluminium. I have used it in the past for cards before my local craft shop started stocking the metal sheet.
