Girls Like Pirates Too
Or at least around here they do. My Belle likes pretty much anything her brothers do. So in this house, we make equal opportunity cookies.
To make these I used a bell cutter and ears that I swiped from an Easter bunny. There wasn’t any big reason for the rabbit, except that I was looking for a carrot cutter around the same time, and happened to notice the ears would work. You could use any cutter as long as it’s the same basic idea. A heart, perhaps?
To make these you’ll need:
- Black icing for outlining with a #2 and #1.5 tip
- flood icing for the bandana, skin, and eye patch
I’m being vague on colors, because you can COMPLETELY personalize these…
Begin by outlining the cookies
Next, flood the bandana and add white dots
and fill the face area.
Let the cookie dry a bit, and then fill in her hair.
At this point let the cookies dry overnight, then, the next day, use black icing and a #1.5 tip to add the details.
When they’re dry, you’ll have pretty perfect pirates.
I made blondies too!
If you really want, they can have lipstick, eyelashes, the works, but since I’m thinking makeup was probably in short supply on all-girl pirate ships, I skipped it this time!
Now, all we need is a fancy name for girl pirates!

Very cute! I have to tell you I recently switched from glaze to decorating cookies with royal icing, using your recipe. I was always hesitant before but it worked great and I’ll be using it from now on. Thanks for all of your tutorials and advice!

I am always impressed by your cookie designs and innovation. I mean, c’mon! Who in the world would think of pairing a bell and rabbit to make a female pirate? Back up… who would imagine using a bell as a girl, period? Well done and thanks for the inspiration for when I get around to making sugar cookies for a second time.
Absolutely adorable. Man, you are so dang creative with those cookie cutters!

Why are you SO darn creative, girl!? Can you please rub some of that off on me? 🙂 I’m loving these last three posts of pirate themed cookies. Just found out today that this Tuesday is pirate day in my Mommy and Tot class. I’m very tempted to try my shaky hand at making these!
Oh, these are so awesome! I try to incorporate some girly aspects into our Talk Like A Pirate Day celebrations for my daughter (who is SUCH a girly girl!), but for some reason pirate girl cookies never occurred to me! Will definitely be trying these out in September!
I think girl pirates should be called pirettes!
Love it!!
In celebration of pirate girls, I give you They Might Be Giants: http://vimeo.com/7597491

love your creative approach with using different cutters to build a cookie!?
Yes!! Girls do like pirates too! Love these cookies. I may have to bake a few dozen for my book launch this June. Victricia Malicia , the main character.. just happens to be a girl pirate. So glad I stumbled on your page. So creative.

Hi, I stumbled upon your blog and absoultely fell in cookie love. I am just starting to learn how to use RI and decorate, hopefully with time and practice, I can manage a straight line. You have opened this whole new world to me and I can’t wait to bake. I wanted to ask, how did you join the ears to the bell? I am baffled.
Thanks!
