Fun Finds!
I have a confession. As much as I love a bargain, I’m not a black Friday-er. Bernie and I tried it a few years ago and that was enough for me.
Now, I’d just as soon do my shopping online or wait until the crowd dissipates and see whats left. So Friday, while the rest of the world is out saving money, you’ll find me at home, baking.
Since many of you have a few days off, I thought I’d share a few fun things I’ve found BEFORE the big day. This leaves enough time to beat the rush or add them to your Christmas list.
I know the last thing I need is another cookie cutter, but I could not resist these. I guess it’s Betty Crocker’s version of Wilton’s 101 set. I found these at Walgreen’s for about ten dollars. I almost put them back until I saw the bat. I looked a little further and noticed several cutters I hadn’t seen before. Before I knew it, they were in my cart.
Collections like these are GREAT for beginners because they offer a great variety of shapes. Add a little creativity and you can do amazing things!
I think my favorite of all is the skull. It’s my new best Day of the Dead cutter. I have a similar version in tin, but it’s kind of small for all of the detail work. This larger skull is just perfect!
If you really DON’T need any new cutters, the second product I suggest trying out is Wilton’s new pearl spray. I mentioned them last week on my Facebook page and got a huge response. Wilton products often get a bad rap, but I was totally impressed with these sprays.
Last week, in a pinch, I was able to cover 42 large cookies with one can. That may not seem like much, but for what it costs to order a can of PME lustre spray I can go to my local craft store and buy three cans of Wilton!
Be sure not to confuse these with Wilton color mist which I used for these ombre and autumn leaf cookies. Same concept, but these are silver, gold, and pearl, and they really shimmer. The color mist sprays don’t. So, if you don’t own or need an airbrush, these are definitely for you. GOOD stuff, trust me!
I hope that all of you non-shoppers have a little cookie time. If you’re one of the brave souls heading out to the sales, pre-bake a batch of cookies to decorate when you get home. It’s the perfect way to relax after a long day of shopping.
PS-This isn’t s sponsored post, I just thought it would be nice to share a few things that make my cookie heart happy. I hope you enjoy them too!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
haha I just got the betty crocker cookies cutters…. though I have no clue what the half zig zag thing is for
I just bought a similar kit that had all the alphabet and numbers with other seasonal cookie cutters!
Oh I really like the bat the angel and the cat face. I have quite a few buckets like and even though in my heart I truly love my copper cutters as they are so pretty, you just can’t go past 100 cookie for 10 bucks – can you. I got the best shaped cowboy hat cookie in one of my bucket’o’cookies.
Thank you so much for sharing these! I’m not a Black Friday-er either. I really dislike shopping in crowds at any time of year. I work in hospitality though, so I’m usually working that Friday anyway.
This just went on my Christmas list! great suggestion!
TOTALLY with you. I don’t do Black Friday. At all.
I love me some Amazon, though. Give me those Lightning Deals!
I have a similar Skull cookie cutter. I used it to make owl cookies for a baby shower. Simply flip it so the “chin” of the skull is at the top. That os the owls head and the forehead is perfect for the owl’s body. 🙂 I have the Wilton 101 cookie Cutters and I love them. So many shapes and so much fun!
I have never been a Black Friday shopper (or the Cdn. equivalent to it) I loathe crowds and standing in long check-out lines. The behaviour I see on some shoppers on the news coverage of these *amazing deals* makes me just want to run for cover.
Great cookie cutter finds Callye. I’m really hoping you do a video tutorial on using the Wilton’s mists. I tried them once…with stencils, major fail…my technique is sorely lacking with this decorating tool.
I really need to see if I can find some cookie cutters like that. Looks like a trip to Walgreens is in my future! My mom left me with a ton of cookie cutters (some from when my 44-year-old sister was a kid!), but there isn’t a lot of variety to them. She had Christmas, Halloween, Easter, and Valentines cutters for the most part.
I’m not very familiar with frosting cookies (my mom and I always decorated our holiday sugar cookies with colored sugar), but I would like to try new techniques. What exactly would you use the color mist sprays for? After you ice the cookies, or instead of icing?
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Callye, and thanks for sharing your finds!
? and harp strings,
Kate
I didn’t buy anything as cool as that, but what I did buy is Christmas Bauble Cookie Cutters!!! I decided that I’m giving ornament cookies as a Christmas present this year 🙂 I am a beginner in cookie decorating (like.. SUPER beginner..only attempted it once..but it was tons of fun!) So I want to experiment and practice 🙂
I love your blog btw. I could be here reading your posts all day!
I’m not a Black Friday-er either. Mike likes it, and once in a while I’ll tag along to people-watch, but that’s about it! I just saw these cutters at my grocery store but didn’t look too closely. That bat is super cute!! Happy Thanksgiving, Callye!!
Holy cow I MUST have those Betty Crocker cookie cutters! I have both the Wilton 101 cutters set and the 50 animal pals set, along with oodles of other cutters I hardly ever use…but I NEED that cat head shape! 🙂 Thanks for sharing, now I have to keep an eye out at Walgreens!
Thank you for always sharing everything you find! I hope you and your family have a very happy Thanksgiving too! 🙂
thanks for sharing, I will have to check that spray out.
Gracias por enseñarnos las compras y gracias por los consejos. Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias.
You’re so adorable Callye. Whether you’re showing us your gorgeous cookies or helping us to learn how to make them or cookie tools, it’s all good! I did Black Friday shopping ONCE and will never do it again. Thankfully now-a-days there are a lot of black Friday sales online! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I still have that little something to send to you and the kids. I wanted to send cookies with it and then I got all self-conscious about sending you cookies when yours are always so beyond amazing. So now I think I’ll just send the little something that made me think of you and wrap it up and you can put it under your Christmas tree 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving Callye. I’m very thankful for you and all that you teach so many of us!
I will email my addy to you soon…if you dont hear from me in two days, REMIND me! YOU know me, LOL!
You already sent your address to me silly girl. I’m all set to ship you the little something. Thanks!
Lordy, I need TWO BRAINS! SO much to do so little time!
Happy Thanks Giving and thanks for sharing your creative ideas with us!
So I have never decorated a cookie in my life and have been absorbing all I can from your website. I ran out and bought the bucket o’ cutters today, and am going to attempt your ombre cookies tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Thanks so much for the tips! I am running out today and braving “Black Friday” just to get to Walgreens. Those cutter are also wonderful for clay. I like the skull cutter also, turned upside down it make an awesome snowman! 🙂

I’ve raided my kids Playdough cutters to use as cookie cutters. Washing them first of course!
Great find with those cutters 🙂
where do you get/find the color mist in those colors? i have never seen them in the store?
any helpful hints, sending cookies to our boys in Uganda and Bahrain. Thanks
whoa! what a find, thanks for the tip…i don’t have alot of cookie cutters so this will give my collection a boost. I found two copper cookie cutters at a flea market last week, a tree and a butterfly! 50 cents for both and I added a snowflake from Michaels. You are my most favorite site next to Gooseberry Patch! They, of course, turned me on to you! Love, hugs, blessings! Marie
Just bought these today:))

I love your site. After seeing these cutters on your site I went to Walgreens and bought them. I would love it if you would use some of the cutters from this collection and post your pictures. You are such an inspiration!!
Lo & behold….you pictured my little boot cutter :). I had someone ask me what cutter I used. I gave them the link to this post & there is the boot in the picture. I ran out the day you posted these & got them….well actually my husband got them for me on his way to work. He works across from a Walgreens.
Hi , Do you have any of these cookie cutters on your blog? I would love to see how you decorated them. Right now they are selling that bucket for $5 by me. Thanks. Kathy
