Crab Cookies
Crab cookies were one of the very first cookies I ever made. The first time around, they gave me a little trouble. Now, they’re one of my favorite designs.
To make these cookies you will need:
- Red piping, 20-second, and flood icing
- Black sugar pearls
Since crab cookies are almost completely red I suggest using Wilton no-taste or Americolor tulip red. You can read more about these colors HERE.
Begin by outlining the body portion of the crab with a #2 tip. I like to start with the top half then move to the bottom. It helps keep things even.
Let the body dry for a bit. Use a #2 tip to outline the claws then fill.
Next, use 20-second icing to make legs. Apply in segments for a realistic look.
When the cookie is dry use piping icing to make two dots for eyes. Use tweezers to add icing pearls to each wet dot.
Use a #2 tip to add a squiggly line detail to each claw and also to the bottom of the shell.
Use 20-second icing to make a bumpy texture on the shell.
The best thing about these little cuties is that there is no shelling involved!

Yes, I agree!!!
I love these///my sign is Cancer and I bought a crab cookie cutter in hopes of making them one day! Thanks for breaking it down! So darn cute.
Love these little gems!
Look at these little crabs…so cute and no shelling?? Win Win!
Awsome!! 😀
These cookies are so cute! The undecorated cookie looks like it might have vanilla sugar in it or some vanilla bean specks. Do you use that in your sugar cookie recipe?
Sometimes when I’m in the mood I throw in a little vanilla bean paste…I also have vanilla with the beans in it. It makes the specks. The recipe is under the recipes and FaQ tabs.
Beach weather is almost here… yippee! These are the perfect cookies to decorate to get into beach mode!
Super cute!
You have the absolute cutest ideas EVER!!!!
Perfection – as usual. As always…thanks for sharing – you make everything so doable for us less than artsy people.
These are so cute!
These are AWESOME!!!! I love seafood… crab is my favorite…I could eat it everyday, the same with these cookies!!!!
Is there any reason NOT to use 20-second icing for the whole crab? I’m making a beach platter with crabs, beach umbrellas, surfboards, etc and I have a million colors to mix–if I could avoid making three consistencies in red, it’d be great!
Nothing more than personal preference. I am a big believer in doing what works best for you, so by all means, make only one. That’s the smartest way to go =)

I love your cookies! I’m just getting started and still need to get better at decorating but it’s getting there. I just recently made some star wars cookies but had trouble with finding the right cutters. I used this cute crab cutter for Yoda by cutting off the top and bottom claws. I just a forrest green wilton color for the icing and candy eyes. He was the cutest and tastiest Yoda ever!! Thanks for the tutorials! they really help a novice like me!!
