My first Betty Crocker Cookbook. It changed my life…
The best gift I was ever given was a handmade wooden recipe box from my big brother. He carved quotes into the lid and the inside of the box about the kitchen and food. It’s so special that when I asked for a recipe box for Christmas, he made one for me himself! That’s why I like doing custom cookies for people –hand-made treats and gifts are always the most memorable 🙂

My KitchenAid Mixer
My boyfriend of nearly two years wrapped up an ipod (that I was with him when he purchased it thinking it was for is brother) and placed it in a wafer tin that was also wrapped up. On christmas day he gave me the pressie and I unwrapped it to see the wafer tin. I was honestly and utterly delighted. I love wafers!! It took them a few minutes to convince me to open up my precious wafers and eat some. Instead I found the ipod. I was utterly shocked but it’s one of my favourites because of the laughs everyone got from me originally loving the wafers!
A golden retriever puppy that we planned on getting for many years. We were able to pick him up on New Year’s Day. He brought so much joy to our lives!

I received my best ever gift almost 3 years ago. Both my mother and grandmother were battling their final battle with cancer right before Christmas of 2011. We had been sitting together talking and watching my kids play. I had never really broke down around them, only to my husband, but as I watched them watch my kids-they had this look on their face that was just devastating to me. It was like they were trying to memorize everything they could about that moment. And as I watched them, everything just flashed in my mind of what I was losing. I was losing my touchstones. The people who guided me to be a better person, who were my sounding boards when I was having a horrible mom moment. But what hurt most of all and made me the most angry-was realizing what they were losing. They were losing the chance to watch my sisters grow up, graduate college, get married, have their own kids. They were losing the chance to watch my kids start school, play their first games, winter plays, sports, concerts and first car. I realized how selfish I had been, eloping to get married. My mom would never plan a wedding. Never get to watch a daughter try on that dress. I was SO ANGRY and I told them. I had finally broke. After I got done speaking, they just smiled and hugged me and said it was going to be fine. My grandmother passed 3 days later on Dec 11th. My mom right after on Dec 19th. Christmas was just another day to stare off into space and cry. I hoped I could just avoid it. However, Christmas morning I woke up and pretended the excitement for the kids. As they wandered off, my husband grabbed a box from behind the couch, handed it to me and just left the room. My best gift ever was inside- letters from my mom and grandma for my children. 1st day of school. 1st sports game. Letters for before and after the school year. 1st date. Homecoming. Prom. Graduation. Wedding and 1st baby. All tied together and sealed. They had books for each of my children that they had recorded themselves reading. And on the top-was a picture of the 4 generations of us-my grandmother, mom, myself and my daughter. It had a note that simply read “We haven’t left you”—-THAT’s my best gift ever.

My favorite gift was a scrap book my daughter made me with all my pictures of my baked creations. I love homemade gifts.
Last Christmas we didn’t have any money to buy our four kids anything because my student loans came in later than I thought they were. My husband surprised me with a small pair of owl earrings (owls are my favorite). I know that he didn’t spend a lot of money on them but just the thought was really special (and, they are really cute!)
Last Christmas I had the chance to meet my favorite author, but I couldn’t find the ONE book I wanted him to sign. I had lent it to someone and it was lost. An oil on canvas painting my sister made from my niece (her own daughter) when she was 5 years old. My niece is swimming in the bathtub amongst toys. All the colors are blues and grays except for my niece, she is in skin tones and brown for her hair. Everyone thinks it’s me when I was 5 years old!
Sounds hokey but the year my father survived a life threatening illness and made it home just in time for Christmas. We were lucky enough to celebrate 2 more Christmases with him, the last being in the hospital. But I will never forget the one he made it home and his endless singing of “I’ll be home for Christmas”. 🙂
Green Bay Packer tickets
Best gift ever my son
The best Christmas present I have ever gotten was back in 1992 when I spent Christmas in Germany with my husband who was in the army at that time. I hadn’t seen him since we had gotten married earlier in the year. I had never traveled by myself to a foreign country! I was kind of scary but it was all worth it when he greeted me at the airport! It wasn’t a “thing”, but a wonderful experience.
The best gift I’ve ever received were concert tickets to see The Eagles. My husband, who isn’t very good at surprises, totally pulled it off! That was almost 20 years ago and I still think about my surprise with delight.

I would have to say the greatest gift I ever received was my Brooke Shields doll head when I was a little girl. I combed and combed her hair until I found out she was dating Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was (in my opinion) every little girl’s dream boyfriend. So out of jealously, I cut all of Brooke’s hair off LOL
My best gift was the airbrush set for cake and cookie decorating.
