Cute Baseball Bat Cookies
Over the years I’ve made many baseball-themed cookies, but it’s always bothered me that the common bat cutter isn’t proportionate to the rest of the shapes. Luckily I have generous and creative friends like Natalie, of Palestine Painted Cookie who shared this idea for a “fat baseball bat” cookie. I love it so much I may never use my old baseball bat cutter again!
I followed Natalie’s advice and used a milk bottle cutter for this design but if you don’t have one on hand a necktie would work well also.
Create a baseball bat shape by trimming the corners with a sharp knife.
Use your fingers to round off any sharp corners.
To decorate these cookies you will need:
- Brown piping and flood icing
- Red piping and flood icing
- Dark brown piping icing
Begin by outlining the photos as pictured below.
Flood the sections, waiting a few minutes for each color to dry before moving to the next one. You might also notice that I had a rather bubbly batch of icing this time around. Since I knew that I’d eventually add wood grain, I decided to skip stressing and cover them with a few finishing details. It’s a simple solution, but definitely one to remember. Bubbles happen.
Anywho, finish up by adding the woodgrain and handle detail {#1.5 and #2 tips, in that order}.
Cute and chubby baseball bats are adorable mixed with other baseball-themed cookies.
Stay tuned because my plan for June is to focus on perfect cookies WITHOUT a Kopykake. Don’t be surprised to see another cookie in the set VERY soon.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!
Oh, wow…seriously, the milk bottle is the perfect shape for a chubby bat! I hate my baseball bat cutter because the cookies break so easily (and like you said, it’s disproportionate to the rest of the cookies in the set). Brilliant! Now I need to go practice wood graining. :-/
I’m doing a baseball cake for this weekend and the bat cutters are KILLING me because they’re so boring, not to mention skinny. I was going to use a fat exclamation point cutter, but this is even better.
You got two thumbs up from my son this morning, he said they’re awesome! I think so too! Maybe because I haven’t ate breakfast yet I see chicken drumsticks as well with that shape! LOL
Super cute idea! I love the proportions of the bat and the wood grain is fantastic! 🙂
You are the master at creative cutters! Thanks again for sharing your brilliance with us:)
What an awesome idea! It’s been said before, but you have the most amazing knack for solving little problems like broken baseball bat cookies! (And you obviously have smart friends, too, like Natalie!)
You don’t need much focus on creating perfect cookies without a Kopykake Callye, you are brilliant at what you do. You are why I started my cookie hobby. I’ll probably never achieve your greatness but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop trying. Thanks for all your inspiration!
So adorable! Your fat baseball bats would make excellent bowling pins. Just add a circle cutter to make a bowling ball – maybe marble the frosting with wet-on-wet technique to make those cool marbled bowling balls. Can’t wait for your June cookies. I am without a Kopykake, so I’m eagerly awaiting all of your fabulous techniques and tips. Thanks again!
Love these bats! 🙂
Love, love, love these cookies Callye! You are truly amazing! I sure hope that the next cookie we see from this set is that Texas Ranger “T”! I’m supposed to do Ranger cookies for a birthday party next month & that would be awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Got ya covered!!!
YOU ROCK!!!! I’m seriously excited!! Thank you Callye!
I just used your mouse design to make cookies for my great niece who is bringing the pet mouse home from school as her new pet. Just as I am checking your website to get the link for the mouse design to share credit for your fabulous work, I see this wonderful post. This baseball bat is so much more interesting than the skinny little cutter that I have used. I look forward to all of your posts but definitely the ones that create wonderful things without the need for a Kopycake. I’d love to see you give some instructions for the boy and girl cutter from Karen’s shop. I love the cutters and have used it several times, most recently for a mermaid, but I still struggle with the arms.
Oh my my my, how wonderful and cute is that fat bat! I just made a bunch of baseball themed cookies, and I hated frosting my skinny bat – now I’ll look forward to more baseball cookies! And that glove with the little ball….TOOOOOO cute!
You are seriously amazing! I have followed your posts forever. Just when I think you can’t come up with something new, you do. I am in awe!
The title did not lie! They are CUTE! I want to make some <3
Love these! Quick question…what font did you use to make the “T” cookie?
That’s actually the Texas Rangers logo…but I’ll find ya a similar one ASAP 🙂
These are SO adorable! Great job!
That is some SERIOUSLY good cookie decoration!
Love these chubby sluggers! Really looking forward to your non-Kopykake June posts!
Please, I live in Texas and would LOVE the Texas Ranger’s cookie tutorial l!!
Coming soon!!!
Here ya go, Betty 🙂 https://www.sweetsugarbelle.com/2013/06/texas-rangers-cookies/
Cute collection! I really like that you stuck the smaller baseball cookie onto the mitt 🙂 Your “T” is great. Did you do two royal icing transfers to make it or just iced over the red with the white?
Finally got it posted, P! https://www.sweetsugarbelle.com/2013/06/texas-rangers-cookies/
Hi Callye – you mentioned that this was a bubbly batch of icing…mine is ALWAYS like that! How do you combat the bubbles other than just popping them with a toothpick? This is not a very time-saving method, and I’m hoping you have a trick for this! I’ve tried letting the icing sit in the mixing cup for 5 minutes and then stirring it again to pop bubbles before filling my bottles, but that doesn’t seem to do anything about the little bubbles, which are the ones that drive me crazy and can mar the final product. Thanks for any advice!
Try switching to the paddle if you don’t use that already.

Hello!
I LOVE your site, and you are the main reason I started decorating cookies! That said, it bothers me a bit that you categorize cookies by gender. Why can’t a girl enjoy a baseball bat cookie just as much as a boy?
Bisides this, like I said, you are the best there is! 😀
I totally understand. My girl is a ball player also, I just posted them there to make them a little easier to find under a more commonly associated category. Sorry if I offended you. I truly believe girls are just as capable as boys in any endeavor.

I found these idea, and they are so amazing. My brother-in-law lost his dad this year, I want to make these and decorate them with a Yankees theme, because that was there tradition, and this would be a sweet little way to remind him he is still with us this thanksgiving. Thank you so much for the ideas, and if you can help me with any other tips it would more appreciated than words can express.
