Leggy Little Witches
Believe it or not, this leggy little witch almost got the better of me. I’ve always loved the idea of witch leg cookies, but I wanted to do something a little different than put them on a square. It took me a lot longer than I like to admit to think of a creative cutter idea for these.
To be honest, I have been thinking about it since last year.
When it finally DID hit me, I was almost embarrassed it didn’t occur to me before. Are you surprised?
Of course, a dress cutter, or a T-shirt would work as long as it has sleeves. All I did was trim the diaper flap from the cookie before baking.
After baking, you’ll end up with cookies that look like these.
Now for the fun part!
To make these cookies you will need:
- Black piping icing
- Green, purple, and black flood icing
- a small bit of yellow 20-second icing
First outline little witchy boots using a #3 tip. Start by making the tops of each boot FIRST to help you see how they will be spaced, then add the rest of the boot. Next, add the striped stockings.
I have this little thing that I do, that I will TRY to explain, but if you don’t understand, no biggie. It may just be OCD. Lots of times, I don’t like my cookie to be so FLAT. So, to give them a little dimension I outline the foreground object with a larger tip, and the background with a smaller tip. I did this to give the appearance that the legs are actually inside the boot. THIS IS entirely unnecessary, and I do it without even thinking. I just thought I would explain the process.
If I confused ya, just disregard all that and move onto the next step.
Next, fill in the boots with black icing, and let it dry for a bit.
Fill the stockings in alternating sections, giving time to dry between steps, so that the colors don’t run together. When the entire cookie is flooded, let it dry overnight.
The next day, add the final details. I used 20-second icing for the buckles,
and a few little squiggles using a #1.5 tip and a white glare {optional}.
This is one of those ideas that turned out pretty much like what I had planned in my head. I LOVE it when that happens!
Lots of leggy little witches from me to you!
I hope everyone has a wonderful week baking up Halloween treats. If you’d like to make matching hats for your leggy little witch, be sure to check out my 3-D witch hat cookies.
Happy Halloween Baking everyone!
Girl! You have “vision”!! LOVE the feet!!!!!
What a creative mind you have. Of course everyone has that cutter. I think I will make them this Halloween. Thank you.
Super cute and creative! You are so good at that!
these are awesome!
ADORABLE! There you go again with all your cutter creativity:)
Love them! I have a rubber stamp just like them – maybe I will have to give them a try. Amazingly, I have a tee shirt cutter! (I have very few cutters so far)
Cute im gonna do it for My kids 🙂
Sooo Cute!! Looks like someone is on a roll since CC! 🙂
You are SO TALENTED! These cookies are adorable, I can’t believe you got that all from a onesie cookie! Amazing. You make it look so easy but there is no way mine would be that pretty.
: )
I love these cookies! I thought to myself, let’s look at the cookie and try to figure out which cutter she used – and I guessed t-shirt! I use my big onsie cutter for t-shirts since I don’t have a shirt cutter and it works perfectly for that.
Adorable!! and now I’m seeing elf shoes as well for Christmas!!!
Great job, really cute! Very, very clever. I never would have thought of using the T-shirt cutter for a cookie like this- but once you said “you thought of a creative cutter idea for these” I saw what it was immediately and had an- of course! moment. Now I think I’ll always see witch legs whenever I look at a t-shirt shaped cutter.
I love these! Genius idea! Now, if I attempt these, they probably will come out looking funky, ha. Thanks for posting this!
I L.O.V.E. these cookies and I love that you used a onesie cutter to make them. You truly have a gift.
This is very smart and very cute! All those witch’s legs! 🙂
I bet you used that cutter several times since your idea of the shoes last year and didn’t even notice it! Your cookies are so perfect, the lines are straight and colors are vibrant! Awesome!
You are CRAZY AMAZING!!!
OMG…Those are so awesome…But I think all your cookies are….but these happen to be even more awesome 🙂 Love how creative you are…I don’t know if I would have ever thought of using a shirt cutter…your so smart!
Oh my goodness Callye, I am SO GLAD that you made these cookies first! I was going to make some sort of like these, but then I would have been horribly embarrassed when you posted these ABSOLUTE GEMS! And I love how you added dimension by outlining with different tip sizes. Its so very clever!
Callye, you are a fippin’ genius. These are ADORABLE!
BRILLIANT!!!!
You beat me to it Callye. I have witch legs and shoes sitting on my table already baked and outlined waiting to dry til tomorrow to fill in the colors. While I’m excited that great minds think alike, I’m embarrassed that I didn’t think of it nearly as cute as yours. I just used my regular witch shoe cookie cutter and then added on a rectangle leg. Your idea is a million times cuter! Thanks so much for sharing. I will just have to make your version sometime before halloween because they are FLIPPING cute! 🙂
It amazes me the wonderful things you all (The Cookie Queens) see in cookie cutters! Callye I am always in total awe of your cookies!! If I could have half of your vision when it comes to cookie designs I would be sooooooo happy!!
Love these!!! These cookies make me want to throw a Halloween Party…and just serve cookies!
These are SO cute! I love them! And also, I love your tip about the foreground/background outlining – such a good idea.
Every time you post a new cookie – I always try and figure out what cutter you use…this time I was pretty close, I guessed an upside down T-Shirt! I just love a leggy witch!
too fun!
you are my idol!!…….. I LOVE how you think outside the box!! these are too cute!
You are fantastic, I love your design and above all trailers cutters use different models
Brilliant! These are so stinking cute! You think of the most amazing ideas!
Hi Callye,
Wonderfully creative!! They are so well done, love them.
Marlyn
Honestly Callye, You are the MOST creative person I know… (or should I say stalk..lol)
How fun!
You are so creative and talented… I love the idea!
Thanks for share this, I’m going to make this lovely Halloween cookie =)
Greetings from Spain , Nani
These are really fun! When I first saw the cookies and was trying to figure out what cutter you used, I guessed a cowboy hat… do you think that could have worked?
Oh heck yeah!!! GREAT GREAT GREAT idea!!!
So cute Callye! Dave and I are Callye-izing some cookies later this week, can’t wait to show you!!
Crazy-cute that’s what those are!!
LOVED the eyeballs =)
There’s nothing wrong with being a bit OCD….it makes for a good cooker! I embrace my OCD lol. The cookies look great and as always your ability to use cutters other than their original shape is very inspiring 🙂
I LOVE IT! I have the onesie cutter and actually just realized I can use it for scrubs! Thank goodness there are creative people like you to guide me through the cookie maze! 🙂 Thanks for all your great ideas!
This is what we need – an insight to make evnryoee think
You are beyond brilliant! Creative genius, you!!!
I love the witch legs!
Your blog never cease to amaze me!!! I absolutely love it and these are fabulous! I can’t wait to make my halloween cookies!
Calleye – I am so loving these! You are the master at creative cutter uses!! I love the tip about using different size tips to add dimension to cookies too!!! Thanks for doing what you do!!!
Hi! I’m a fan of yours from Portugal. What a fun and great idea!!! The cookies are wonderful as usual.
You really do have alot of “cookie think” going on. Super adorable!!!
I am a follower of your blog and just wanted to tell you this is absolutely the cutest cookies I have seen. I love witches legs! Anytime I see a digi graphic or something with the witches legs I love it. These are just so so cute! Thanks for sharing!

These are adorable… you are so creative. Thank you for sharing.
you are so creative with your cutters it’s wonderful.
Wow, such a creative idea, I would have never thought to use that cutter to make them.. I can’t wait to check out the rest of your posts.
i really like your food pictures and want to invite you to try out tastingspot.com. it’s for anyone that just wants another place to submit photos and share it will other foodies. It’s still in beta version, but would love for you to start adding some photos and help get it going.
WOW! Outlining the legs with a smaller tip makes such a huge difference! I’m always amazed at the new ideas you think of when decorating cookies.
LOVE these I’m hoping for time to try them before Halloween, would be cute as Santa’s boots as well, just a thought! Now for the useless or not-so-useless trivia. To get rid of grasshoppers from your tomato plants. Catch 12 grasshoppers, put them in a blender and blend. Leave this concoction sit for 1-2 days and then spray back onto the tomato plants. I’ve heard it scares all the other grasshoppers away, seriously!! I prefer to talk my children into the grasshopper catching game, where we all take mini kitchen tongs and ziplocks bags, set the timer and see who can catch the most grasshoppers in a certain time. Strange, yes I know, but it really does cut down on our grasshopper population 😉
I am constantly in awe of what you do, I mean you even went and added the little reflection off the tip of the boots!
Every time I come here, I leave with such a humungous smile! Seriously! What a clever & talented girl you are! Love these leggy little witches!
I dream of making beautiful cookies like you! Thank you for sharing your talents with the world. You are awesome.
Using the cookie cutter like that is absolutely brilliant! And those cookies have to be some of the most perfectly iced cookies I’ve ever seen.
How clever. I would have never guessed a onesie. I thought you may have used the top half of a dog with floppy ears cutter. These have such “personality”.
so amazingly cute! Love!
Excellent! How did you keep the ‘implosions’ from happening on the purple and green?
Okay, I hope this will make sense…I use the bottles and I put a #2 tip on them. I start at the bottom really close to the surface, and make sure I get it filled completely then work up. That way it doesn’t have any dead space in there. This is not a scientific fact…and I don’t know WHY it works, but 99.9% of the time it works. Unless I have an important order I need to ship out the next morning. THEN I get cratering, LOL!
These are adorable! I am *so* doing these for Christmas…would be great little elf leggies!! Thanks for sharing your talents!
You are so smart to reinvent the shape of that cookie cutter! Love these cookies – so fun for Halloween!
Holy legs! You are so talented!! How do you come up with these cute ideas?
I absolutely LOVE these!! I may have to squeeze them into my halloween cookie plan…
These cookies are so creative and adorable. I have a question for you – every time I try to fill in small areas like the witch’s stockings, I get little indents or holes. How you do you get yours to look so perfect?!
I answered under Gail’s comment, Not a proven fact..just a theory!
thank you! I’m going to give that a try.
YES…I echo Gail and Jaclyn! When I see those small, filled-in areas, I panic knowing I typically get the “implosions” or “cratering” as you call it. How in the world do you do it without that happening?
I answered up on Gail’s comment. I have a theory…
Love your blog. It is my favorite! I love your ideas and your talent is amazing. I am learning so much from you. Thanks a bunch!
Wicked! Thanks for sharing.
Me encantan!!!!
Too perfect. Just posted on Edible Crafts 🙂

Before cakes, cupcakes and gumpaste flowers, cookies were the love of my life. BUT I star tipped them. I have always wanted to know how to use color flow icing. Your site is like Christmas morning and getting to unwrap all the presents that Santa has left!
What a cute idea!!!
this is BRILLIANT! I am bookmarking these for next Halloween!
