Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
Today is Dr. Seuss’s birthday! If you have children or grandchildren, chances are you’re VERY familiar with his books.
They are a pretty big deal in my house. We own all of them, and doubles of some, so there was no shortage of inspiration on my end!
To celebrate what would have been Dr. Seuss’s 107th birthday, I made cookies. I let the kids pick some of their favorites…
Green Eggs and Ham was the winner, hands down.
I love these little cupcake toppers…these were so easy to make!
It’s no secret that I am not much of a cake baker, but thanks to TidyMom’s good timing I found a recipe that is perfect for me. The cool thing about this particular recipe is that it makes a little sturdier batter that’s easy to scoop into the liners. Usually, I make a drippy mess, but not with this recipe.
And the best part was, Bern-Dogg and the kids thought I was a hero! My little family WAS so thrilled to have something besides cookies to snack on!
For the cookies I used a re-shaped mini-dog bone cutter *I LOVE DOG BONE CUTTERS* and a wonky flower fondant cutter.
I like to use bamboo forks for cookie toppers because they are taller and sturdier than toothpicks.
I roll my cookies a little thicker for this {between 1/4 and 1/2 an inch}, insert the fork, and bake.
And if you don’t feel like making cookie toppers, my pal Mique at
30 Handmade Days designed this adorable cupcake flag. Just click on the image to get yours! They are quick, easy, and look great!
My kids and I picked a few more favorite Seuss characters to go with the green eggs and ham. Mine were the hats.
Evan liked them all, so we narrowed it down to a few recognizable characters, making sure not to forget the elephant {Horton} for Belle.
I also made ISH for my brother, Bryce. It’s a long story, but he knows why =)
And of course, Caleb picked the fishies…
Here’s the whole Seuss family. Funny, they look a little like us =)

Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Wow…your cookies are crazy amazing!
Wow… I love Dr. Seuss, and I found you over on Tidy Mom. I'm you're newest follower (and you're my new best friend…) Ok, so I'm really excited. I've always loved cookies; and I'm doing some for my sister's shower. I know I'm just in the beginning stages of decorating cutouts, but it's a fun hobby, and I'm so excited for more inspiration! Thanks so much!
=) You made me smile! This is an addictive hobby!!!
Callye- Am I correct in assuming the outline was done in black, but most of the black accents were done with an edible marker?
Thanks!
You are amazing!! I am so addicted to your site.

They are impressive! Congratulations! One thing, are the accents made with edible marker or everything was piped with black outline icing? If so, OMG!
I absolutely love the cookies. I would like to make them for my daughter’s baby shower and was curious to know what cookie cutters you used for the various characters or did you cut those out by hand? Thank you so much for the tutorials you post, they’re so helpful! Bless you!
These I handcut. Which particular one were you interested in.
Oh wow, thank you for replying. I’d love to do all of them if I could (the hat cookies and ish, cat in the hat, horton and the one holding the green eggs and ham too. Did you use gourmet markers to draw the fish on the or were the fish flood filled? You must be an amazing artist, I’m not sure I could draw like you. I’m artistically challenged but I’m game to try. It’ll also depend on how much I can do with my carpal tunnel wrists. Thanks for your help, it’s greatly appreciated!
These are amazing? I would also like to know how you did the black. Was it a food writer or piped royal?

Your cookies are amazing!!! Do you sell them anywhere??? I don’t have the artistic ability to do the detail you do. Great job!!!
These are awesome! They’re so detailed! And how on earth did you make the fishes?? I have an idea how you did the others, but the fish are so detailed! Did you use piping and flood, or 20-second?
Amazing as always. I love them all. My house loves Dr Seuss as well. The Lorax comes out this week!
You are an amazing artist! I am always SO inspired by your creativity and skill! I’m aspiring to be as awesome as you are at this =)
LOVE!!!
I knew you could do cupcakes! This is awesome!
Your Seuss cookies are fantastic – if you could see the first of my Seuss cookies, you would laugh your head off!
They’re just all so cute!

Wow! Those are super cute! I have not even attempted Dr Suess cookies, but your post makes me want to try. Maybe a Suess tutorial would help us newbies ;o)
Thanks for always sharing.
Dear Lucy, Thank you for visiting our blog from Scotland! This is very enictixg for our students to see comments from around the world! We had a lot of fun with Cat in the Hat! He brought everyone special Dr. Seuss bookmarks and visited people eating green eggs and ham! Actually green eggs are not so hard to make. Our lunch kitchen made them. You can do it 2 different ways. You can add blue food coloring to eggs and they will turn green. Why? Because blue + yellow makes green. Most people just add green food coloring to the eggs. You can’t taste it, and it’s fun to look at. Do children in Scotland read Dr. Seuss books? Do you have a favorite book? From,Mrs. Hembree
These are incredible, beautiful, amazing works of art, Callye! I think you should be a book illustrator. For real.
How did you make the black shadows on the hat and all the little characters?
Amazing!!! I am stunned into silence… I would love a tutorial on how you created such clear definition with the black outlines and colors!!!
Seriously girl, your cookies are picture perfect!
What cutter did you use for the hat. I’m trying to decide what cookie I want to do for Teacher Appreciation week and I think the hats would be good. But I don’t want to hand cut 58 cookies. LOL.. I know you have a creative mind. Thank God because I missed that gene and you totally help me utilize the cutters I already have. I so appreciate it!!! 🙂

I’ve been browsing online more than 4 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be a lot more useful than ever before.
Hello,
Thank you for your inspiring work. I am about to make some CITH cookies for my baby’s first birthday and I was wondering if you did your using edible markers or it’s all done by royal icing.
Thank you
Maryam
